Tranexamic acid interrupts the signalling pathway that drives melasma, rather than simply lightening pigment already present. It is the most effective cosmetic option available for melasma, because hydroquinone is prescription-only in the UK.

Melasma and stubborn hormonal pigmentation. Also useful for post-inflammatory marks that have not faded.
How to use
Twice daily on affected areas. Results build over eight to twelve weeks. Without daily SPF it will not work — this is not negotiable with melasma.
