Service Description

WHAT IT IS Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin with fine needles set to a depth chosen for your scarring. The skin's repair response lays down new collagen, which gradually fills in and softens indented scars from beneath. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT It is the foundation treatment for acne scarring, with the longest track record and the best balance of effectiveness against risk. It works on the mechanism that matters — building new collagen where scarring has left a deficit. WHAT WE AIM FOR Progressively softened scar edges, shallower indentations and improved overall skin texture, built across a course. WHO IT SUITS · Rolling and boxcar acne scarring · Uneven, textured skin after acne · Enlarged pores alongside scarring · Starting a structured scar treatment plan · Scarring on the cheeks and temples TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: 45–60 minutes plus 30 minutes numbing Discomfort: Numbing cream applied; tolerable Downtime: Redness like sunburn for 24–48 hours First results: From 4–6 weeks Sessions: 3–6, four to six weeks apart Course of 3 available: £499 Aftercare: No make-up for 24 hours; SPF 50 daily FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is this different from a home dermaroller? Substantially. Clinical microneedling reaches depths that home devices cannot and are not safe to attempt — home rollers work superficially and do very little for genuine scarring, while carrying an infection risk if not sterilised properly. How many sessions will I need? Most scarring needs three to six. Dr Selvi will assess your scar types and depth and give you a realistic number at consultation, not an open-ended course. What result can I realistically expect? Improvement, not erasure. No treatment removes acne scarring completely, and any clinic telling you otherwise is misleading you. A realistic outcome from a well-planned course is typically a 40 to 70 per cent improvement — the difference between scarring that is the first thing someone notices and scarring you have to look for. Why do I need more than one type of treatment? Because acne scars are not all the same. Ice-pick, boxcar and rolling scars have different structures and respond to different techniques. Applying one treatment to every scar type is the single most common reason scar treatment underdelivers. Do I need my acne under control first? Yes, absolutely. Treating scars while new ones are still forming wastes your money. Dr Selvi will get the active acne controlled before starting scar work — and will say so even if it delays the treatment you came in for. Is scar treatment suitable for darker skin? Yes, with appropriate technique and settings. The main consideration is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is more likely in richly pigmented skin. Dr Selvi may prime your skin, adjust the approach, or space sessions further apart. How important is sun protection? Critical. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50 throughout the course and for months afterwards. Freshly treated skin pigments readily, and sun exposure is the most common cause of a disappointing scar treatment result. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by a doctor, following a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability.
