No. This is the most common worry and it is unfounded. Vellus hair grows back at the same texture and colour it was before — shaving does not change the hair follicle. Coarse terminal hair is a different matter and is not what dermaplaning treats. Can I have it before an event? Yes — it is one of the few treatments you can genuinely have the day before, and make-up applies noticeably better afterwards. Is it suitable if I have active acne? No. Dermaplaning over active, inflamed spots risks spreading bacteria and irritating the skin. Dr Selvi will treat the acne first and recommend dermaplaning once the skin has settled. Can I combine it with a peel? Yes, and it is a common pairing — removing the dead surface layer first allows a peel to work more evenly.
