Excessive Palm Sweating — Consultation
Doctor consultation for excessive sweating of the palms, with treatment if appropriate.
Service Description
WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about excessive sweating of the hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), which can affect handshakes, writing, gripping and using a phone or keyboard. He asks about the pattern of your sweating, what you have tried and your general health, and considers whether a prescription-only treatment is appropriate. Excessive sweating can sometimes be linked to other conditions or medicines, so it should also be assessed by your GP where appropriate. WHO IT MAY SUIT · Palms that sweat regardless of temperature or nerves · Avoiding handshakes or hand contact · Difficulty writing, gripping or using devices · Antiperspirants and topical treatments not having helped enough · A social or work impact from the condition WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. If treatment is given, the effect usually starts within 5–14 days and typically lasts 4–6 months; the response varies between individuals. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: 45–60 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, including medical history, current medicines and examination of the hands Discomfort: The palms are sensitive; numbing and comfort measures are used Downtime: Temporary hand weakness is possible for 1–2 weeks FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is the treatment painful? The palms are among the more sensitive areas to treat. Numbing measures are used and the treatment is manageable, but it is less comfortable than underarm treatment. Will my hands feel weak afterwards? Some people notice temporary mild weakness in grip or fine finger movement for one to two weeks. If your work or hobbies depend on fine hand control, discuss the timing with Dr Selvi. Will I sweat more elsewhere instead? Some people report a mild increase in sweating elsewhere. Dr Selvi will discuss this with you. What are the other risks? Bruising, tenderness and temporary numbness or tingling at the injection points can occur. The effect is temporary, so treatment would need to be repeated if you wished to continue. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with a free initial consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you. Prices are a guide and are confirmed after assessment.
