Service Description

WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). He asks about the pattern of your sweating, what you have already tried and your general health, and considers whether a prescription-only treatment is appropriate. Excessive sweating can sometimes be linked to other conditions or medicines, so it should also be assessed by your GP where appropriate — particularly if it started recently, affects the whole body or happens at night. WHO IT MAY SUIT · Underarm sweating that is heavier than expected for the temperature or activity · Sweating that marks clothing or affects daily life · Strong antiperspirants not having helped enough · Wanting a doctor's view on the options WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: Up to 60 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, including medical history, current medicines and examination of the area Downtime: Usually little or none; aftercare is explained if treatment is given FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Does it stop sweating completely? No, and that is not the aim. Results vary between individuals, and the effect is temporary, so treatment would need to be repeated if you wished to continue. What are the risks? Temporary soreness, bruising or tenderness at the injection points are common. Some people notice slightly more sweating elsewhere on the body. Rarely, there can be temporary weakness in the arm or hand. Is the treatment uncomfortable? It involves a number of small injections across the underarm skin. Most people find it manageable, and Dr Selvi will discuss comfort measures with you. Should I see my GP? If you have not already, yes — especially if the sweating is new, affects your whole body or occurs at night, as these can point to another cause that needs investigating. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with a free initial consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you. Prices are a guide and are confirmed after assessment.
