WHAT IT IS Filler dissolving at Dr Selvi Clinic in Brighton uses hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid filler, to correct overfilling, migration, lumps or asymmetry from a previous treatment. Dr Selvi assesses the area first, with ultrasound where it helps, and the first step is a free initial consultation. Hyaluronidase works on hyaluronic acid, the material used in most dermal fillers. It does not dissolve other types of filler, so knowing, or finding out, what was used is part of the assessment. Often by examination, and more precisely with a filler detection ultrasound scan, which shows what is already there and in which layer. This helps place the enzyme where it is needed. Does it work on all fillers? Only on hyaluronic acid fillers. Other materials are not broken down by hyaluronidase. If you are unsure what you had, bring any details from your previous clinic; ultrasound can also help. What are the risks? Mild redness, swelling and bruising are common. Allergic reactions to hyaluronidase are uncommon but can occur, which is one reason it should be given by a doctor who can recognise and manage a reaction immediately. Tell Dr Selvi about any allergies before treatment. What is a vascular occlusion, and how is hyaluronidase used for it? A vascular occlusion happens when filler enters or presses on a blood vessel and reduces the blood supply to the skin. It is rare but time-critical.
