Service Description

WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about how much of the gums show when you smile. Gum show can relate to the muscles that raise the upper lip, to lip length, or to the position of the teeth and jaw. Dr Selvi looks at your smile, explains which factors are involved and considers whether a prescription-only treatment is appropriate. Where the teeth, gums or jaw position are the main factor, a dentist or orthodontist is usually the right person to advise. WHO IT MAY SUIT · More gum showing than you would like when you smile · Gum show that is uneven between the two sides · Wanting to understand what is causing it before deciding anything · A first appointment about the smile WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. If treatment is given, any effect is usually visible within 3–7 days, fully seen at about 2 weeks and typically lasts 3–4 months. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: About 30 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, looking at your smile and lip movement, plus medical history and medicines Downtime: Usually little or none; avoid rubbing the area for 24 hours and strenuous exercise for a day FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is it suitable for everyone? No. Where gum show relates mainly to the teeth, gums or jaw, a muscle treatment is unlikely to be the right option, and Dr Selvi will say so. What are the risks? Temporary redness, swelling or tenderness are common. Less commonly, the smile can look uneven, the upper lip can look longer, or some lip movements can feel temporarily different. Will my smile look natural? The plan is agreed with you, and results vary between individuals. Dr Selvi will discuss realistic expectations before anything is done. Who is it not suitable for? Treatment is not given to anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions or medicines. Dr Selvi checks this at the consultation. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with a free initial consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you. Prices are a guide and are confirmed after assessment.
