WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about the jawline and the vertical bands on the neck formed by the platysma muscle. The approach known as the Nefertiti technique uses a prescription-only treatment along the jawline and neck bands. Dr Selvi looks at how much of your concern comes from muscle activity and how much from skin laxity, volume or bone structure, because muscle treatment does not address the latter. WHO IT MAY SUIT · Vertical bands on the neck that show when you speak or tense · Concern about the definition of the jawline · Wanting to understand whether the concern relates to muscle, skin or volume · A first consultation about the jaw and neck before deciding anything WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: Up to 60 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, looking at the jaw and neck at rest and with movement, plus medical history and medicines Downtime: Usually little or none; avoid rubbing the area and strenuous exercise for 24 hours if treatment is given FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is this the same as surgery? No. It is not surgery and should not be compared with a surgical procedure. Dr Selvi will explain what it can and cannot realistically change for you. Who is it not suitable for? Where loose skin or volume loss is the main concern, muscle treatment is unlikely to be the right option. It is also not given to anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions or medicines. What are the risks? Temporary redness, swelling or bruising are common. Because the neck muscles are involved in swallowing and neck movement, uncommonly there can be temporary difficulty swallowing, neck weakness or an uneven smile. Seek medical advice promptly if you have any difficulty swallowing or breathing. How is this different from the Neck Lines appointment? This appointment looks at the jawline and neck bands together; the Neck Lines appointment focuses on lines on the neck itself. If you are unsure, Dr Selvi will advise. Who will treat me?
