Service Description

WHAT IT IS Blue LED light at a specific wavelength targets Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria involved in inflammatory acne. The bacteria absorb the light, which triggers a reaction that destroys them. The session is simply lying under a light panel — no heat, no discomfort, nothing on the skin. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT It reduces acne bacteria without antibiotics, without irritation, and with nothing at all to recover from. For inflamed acne that is too sensitive for peels, it is often the only thing the skin will tolerate. WHAT WE AIM FOR Reduced acne bacteria and calmer, less inflamed skin, built up over a course of twice-weekly sessions. WHO IT SUITS · Inflammatory acne with red, angry spots · Skin too sensitive or irritated for peels · Wanting to reduce reliance on antibiotics · Combining with peels between sessions · Anyone needing a completely painless option TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: 20–30 minutes Discomfort: None Downtime: None Frequency: 2 sessions per week recommended Course of 8 available: £349 — the 4-week intensive Combines with: Peels, on separate days FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is one session worth having? Honestly, not on its own. LED works cumulatively and the evidence supports a course. Twice weekly for four weeks is the protocol — which is exactly what the course of 8 provides, at better value. Is it the same as a sunbed? No. Blue LED is visible light with no UV component at all. There is no tanning and no UV-related skin damage. Can I use it alongside my prescription acne treatment? Usually yes, but tell Dr Selvi everything you are using. Some treatments, particularly oral isotretinoin, affect what else is safe. Will my acne get worse before it gets better? Sometimes, yes. A short purging phase in the first two to four weeks is common as treatment brings existing congestion to the surface faster. It is expected and temporary — stopping at that point is the most common reason people conclude a treatment 'did not work'. How long before I see real improvement? Acne treatment takes time because the skin cycle takes time. Expect meaningful change at six to eight weeks and a clear result at three months. Anyone promising clearance in a fortnight is selling you something. Does what I eat matter? For some people, yes — particularly high-glycaemic foods and, in some individuals, dairy. The evidence is real but the effect varies considerably between people. Dr Selvi will discuss it as part of your assessment rather than issuing a blanket rule. Will I need to change my skincare? Almost certainly, and this is often the most valuable part of the consultation. Many people with acne are using products that make it worse — heavy moisturisers, harsh scrubs, or over-cleansing that strips and inflames the skin. When would you refer me elsewhere? Severe nodulocystic acne, acne that is scarring, and acne that has not responded to appropriate treatment may need oral prescription therapy under dermatology supervision. Dr Selvi will tell you if that is what you need rather than putting you through a course that will not be enough. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by a doctor, following a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with the free 15-minute initial consultation if you are unsure which treatment is right for you.
