Service Description

WHAT IT IS Polynucleotides at Dr Selvi Clinic in Brighton are a doctor-led injectable treatment for skin quality. Purified DNA fragments, sourced from salmon or trout, are placed in small amounts into the skin to support its own repair, hydration and elasticity — for thin, crepey or tired-looking skin, rather than to add volume. The material is processed to remove protein, and you may also see the term PDRN, which refers to shorter fragments of the same family. Polynucleotides are not fillers and do not build shape. In the dermis they act as a biological signal to fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen and elastin, so the improvement comes gradually from your own tissue. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT Many people want better skin rather than a different face. Polynucleotides work on the quality of thin, dry or crepey skin, in areas where fillers can disappoint or look heavy. The change builds gradually and your features stay as they are. WHAT WE AIM FOR Better-hydrated, more resilient skin with finer texture and improved elasticity. Polynucleotides are not a lift: where the main concern is lost volume, a hollow or loose skin, Dr Selvi will explain which other treatment is more suitable. WHO IT SUITS · Thin, crepey or dull skin on the face · Crinkling on the neck and décolletage · Thin skin on the backs of the hands · Texture changes after acne, as part of a wider plan · Wanting skin improvement without filler · Under-eye skin — see our separate Polynucleotides (Eyes) page TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: Around 20–30 minutes of treatment, plus numbing time Numbing: Numbing cream for 20–30 minutes beforehand Technique: Small injections into the skin across the area Downtime: Small bumps for a few hours to a day; redness and bruising possible Avoid: Make-up for the rest of the day; gym, sauna and alcohol for 24 hours First changes: Gradual, usually from around three to six weeks Course: Planned at consultation, with a review point agreed in advance Duration: Around six to nine months after a course; varies with area, age and skin FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Are polynucleotides the same as a skin booster or filler? No. Fillers add volume and shape. Hyaluronic acid treatments such as Profhilo mainly hydrate. Polynucleotides are a repair signal aimed at the cells that build skin — slower to show and longer to last. They are often planned together in a sensible order. How soon will I see a difference? Any plumping in the first few days is mostly water. The change you came for usually shows from around three to six weeks and continues to develop for one to three months after the course. A standardised photograph at review is the fairest way to judge it. Do the injections hurt? Numbing cream is applied first, and most patients describe brief stinging rather than pain. Do polynucleotides help dark circles? Only where the darkness comes from thin, translucent skin. If it comes from pigmentation or a structural shadow, polynucleotides will underdeliver, which is why the cause is assessed first. Who should not have polynucleotides? They are not suitable if you have a fish or seafood allergy, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an active skin infection, cold sore or inflamed acne in the area. Autoimmune conditions, immunosuppression and anticoagulants that are not well controlled need careful assessment first. The product is animal-derived, which matters if you follow a vegan or vegetarian practice. What are the risks? Bruising, swelling, tenderness and small lumps are common and usually settle. Rarely, a persistent nodule or an infection can occur. Dr Selvi explains all risks before you consent. Can I combine them with other treatments? Yes, with sensible sequencing. For skin that is both thin and slightly loose, polynucleotides are often followed by Profhilo a few weeks later. Dr Selvi sets the order and the intervals. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability.
