Smoker's Lines — Consultation
Doctor consultation for vertical lines around the lips, with treatment if appropriate.
Service Description
WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about the vertical lines above and below the lips, often called smoker's lines. These lines can relate to repeated lip movement, to skin quality or to volume loss, and the options differ. Depending on the assessment, Dr Selvi may discuss a very small amount of a prescription-only treatment, dermal filler, a skin-quality treatment or a combination. WHO IT MAY SUIT · Vertical lines above or below the lips · Lines that hold lipstick or show more when you purse your lips · Wanting to understand which option suits your lines · A first appointment for the area around the mouth WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. For the prescription-only option, if treatment is given, any effect is usually visible within 3–7 days, fully seen at about 2 weeks and typically lasts 3–4 months. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: Up to 60 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, looking at the lips at rest and with movement, plus medical history and medicines Downtime: Usually little or none; avoid touching the area for 24 hours and strenuous exercise for a day FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do I have to be a smoker? No. Despite the name, these lines are common in people who have never smoked, and relate to repeated lip movement, sun exposure and changes in the skin over time. What are the risks? Temporary redness, swelling or bruising are common. With the prescription-only option, drinking through a straw or some lip movements can feel temporarily different. With filler, small lumps can occur and, rarely, filler can block a blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment; Dr Selvi explains how this risk is managed. Which option is right for me? That depends on what is causing your lines. Dr Selvi will explain his recommendation, and the alternatives, before anything is done. Who is it not suitable for? Treatment is not given to anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions or medicines. Dr Selvi checks this at the consultation. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with a free initial consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you. Prices are a guide and are confirmed after assessment.
