Stain Mesotherapy
Injectable mesotherapy for uneven skin tone and pigmentation, planned after the pigment type is assessed.
Service Description
WHAT IT IS Stain mesotherapy at Dr Selvi Clinic in Brighton is an injectable skin treatment for uneven tone and pigmentation, such as sun spots and patchy discolouration. A formulation of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, chosen by Dr Selvi, is delivered into the upper skin through a series of small, shallow injections. Mesotherapy describes a delivery method rather than a single product: active ingredients are placed directly into the skin instead of relying on a cream to get through the skin barrier. Pigmentation has several causes — sun damage, marks left after acne or inflammation, and hormonal pigmentation such as melasma — and they behave differently, so the type is assessed first. A dark spot that is new or changing is checked as a skin lesion before anything else. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT It suits people who already use sun protection and a sensible skincare routine and want to add a treatment that works within the skin. It is cumulative and subtle, and it conditions the skin as well as targeting tone. WHAT WE AIM FOR A more even, brighter-looking skin tone, developing gradually over a course and maintained with daily sun protection. Pigmentation can return with sun exposure and hormonal triggers, and mesotherapy is not a substitute for SPF. WHO IT SUITS · Uneven skin tone and dullness · Sun spots and sun-related pigmentation, after assessment · Marks left by acne, once active acne has settled · Uneven tone on the neck, décolletage or hands · People already using daily SPF and a consistent routine TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: 30–45 minutes, including numbing Assessment: Pigment type assessed first, with dermatoscopy or Wood's lamp where relevant Technique: Small, shallow injections into the upper skin Downtime: Small bumps for a few hours, mild redness for a day, occasional pinpoint bruising Avoid: Make-up for 12–24 hours; gym, sauna, sunbeds and alcohol for the first day Sun protection: Daily SPF 30 or higher is essential First changes: Gradual and cumulative over the course Course: Planned at consultation, with maintenance agreed at review FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Will it clear my pigmentation completely? That cannot be promised. The aim is a more even tone. Pigmentation often returns with sun exposure or hormonal change, which is why daily sun protection and maintenance matter. Is it suitable for melasma? Melasma is a long-term, easily triggered condition. Dr Selvi assesses the pattern and advises whether mesotherapy is appropriate, and whether it should be combined with other measures or avoided. What is in the treatment? The formulation contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Dr Selvi will tell you the product by name and what it contains before treatment. Does it hurt? With numbing cream it is usually well tolerated — a series of light scratches. The forehead and the area around the eyes are more sensitive. Who should not have it? It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection or inflamed spots in the area, with poorly controlled bleeding disorders or anticoagulation, or after a previous reaction to a similar formulation. A pigmented spot that is new or changing needs a medical check, not a brightening treatment. What are the risks? Small bumps, redness and pinpoint bruising are common and short-lived. Less commonly, infection or an allergic reaction to one ingredient can occur, and richly pigmented skin can develop pigment change if the technique is too aggressive. Dr Selvi explains the risks before you consent. Why does sun protection matter so much? Ultraviolet light is the main driver of most pigmentation. Without daily SPF, new pigment forms faster than any treatment can improve it. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability.
