TCA Peel (Medium Depth)
Deeper Resurfacing. Real Change. A medium-depth peel using trichloroacetic acid, which reaches the upper dermis — deeper than the superficial acid peels.
Service Description
WHAT IT IS A medium-depth peel using trichloroacetic acid, which reaches the upper dermis — deeper than the superficial acid peels. This depth allows it to address concerns that surface peels cannot: pigmentation, fine to moderate lines, and shallow scarring. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT There is a limit to what superficial peels can achieve. When the concern sits deeper than the top layers, a medium-depth peel is where genuine, visible change begins — with correspondingly more recovery to plan for. WHAT WE AIM FOR Meaningfully improved pigmentation, texture, fine lines and shallow scarring through controlled resurfacing of the upper dermis. WHO IT SUITS · Pigmentation and sun damage · Fine to moderate lines · Shallow acne scarring · Superficial peels having not gone far enough · Willing to accept a week of visible recovery TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: 30–45 minutes Discomfort: Significant stinging and heat for several minutes Downtime: Redness, then peeling for 5–7 days First results: Once peeling finishes, at 7–10 days Sessions: 1–3, spaced 4–6 weeks apart Essential: Strict SPF 50 and sun avoidance afterwards FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How bad is the peeling? Visible and noticeable. Expect the skin to darken slightly, then flake and peel over roughly five to seven days. You will not want to be at an important event during that week — plan it deliberately. Can I have this if I have darker skin? It requires caution. Medium-depth peels carry a real risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in richly pigmented skin. Dr Selvi may prime your skin first, choose a lower concentration, or recommend a different treatment altogether — and will explain her reasoning. Do I have to prepare my skin beforehand? For most peels, yes. Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids for about a week before, avoid sun exposure and fake tan, and do not have hair removal or waxing on the area for a week. Dr Selvi will give you specific instructions for your peel. What is the aftercare? Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50 is non-negotiable — freshly peeled skin burns and pigments easily, and skipping sun protection is the single most common reason a peel result disappoints. Use gentle cleansing, plenty of moisturiser, and do not pick or pull flaking skin. Can I have a peel if I have darker skin? Yes, but the choice of peel matters a great deal. Deeper peels carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in richly pigmented skin. Dr Selvi will select an appropriate peel and depth, and may recommend priming your skin beforehand. When should I not have a peel? Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding for most agents, not over active cold sores, broken skin or infection, not on recently sun-exposed or sunburnt skin, and not while taking oral isotretinoin or within six months of stopping. Tell Dr Selvi about all medications at consultation. How soon before an event should I have one? Allow at least two weeks for a light peel and four weeks for a medium-depth peel. Never have a peel for the first time in the week before something important. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by a doctor, following a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability.
