Trapezius (Shoulder) Muscle — Consultation
Doctor consultation about the trapezius muscle and the neck-to-shoulder line, with treatment if appropriate.
Service Description
WHAT THE CONSULTATION COVERS A face-to-face consultation with Dr Selvi about the trapezius, the muscle running from the base of the skull across the top of the shoulders. Some people have a concern about the bulk of this muscle and the line from the neck to the shoulder; others notice tension in it. Dr Selvi examines the muscle, asks about your work, exercise and posture, and considers whether a prescription-only treatment is appropriate. Neck and shoulder pain should also be assessed by your GP or a physiotherapist where appropriate, as a treatment aimed at muscle bulk does not address its causes. WHO IT MAY SUIT · Concern about the bulk of the upper trapezius and the neck-to-shoulder line · Upper shoulder tension alongside a contour concern · Wanting a doctor's view before deciding on any treatment · Questions about how treatment would fit with training or a physically demanding job WHAT HAPPENS IF TREATMENT IS APPROPRIATE If a prescription-only treatment is appropriate, Dr Selvi prescribes and administers it himself after a face-to-face assessment; if it is not, he will say so and discuss alternatives. TREATMENT DETAILS Appointment: Up to 60 minutes Assessment: Face-to-face, including examination of the neck and shoulders, medical history and medicines Downtime: Usually little or none; aftercare and exercise advice are explained if treatment is given FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Will it affect my strength? The trapezius helps raise the shoulders and support the neck. Some people notice temporary weakness or tiredness when raising their arms or carrying heavy bags. If your work or training is physically demanding, discuss timing with Dr Selvi. What are the risks? Temporary soreness, bruising and tenderness are common. Less commonly, there can be neck or shoulder weakness, headache or a flu-like feeling for a few days. These effects are temporary. Is the change the same for everyone? No. The response varies between individuals, and treatment is not suitable for everyone. Dr Selvi will tell you if he does not think it is the right option. Who is it not suitable for? Treatment is not given to anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions or medicines. Dr Selvi checks this at the consultation. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability. BOOKING Book online, or start with a free initial consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you. Prices are a guide and are confirmed after assessment.
