Vitamin D is essential for bone health, immune function and muscle function, and deficiency is widespread in the UK because of limited sunlight for much of the year. It is strongly advised. Vitamin D can accumulate in the body and excessive levels cause harm, so dosing should be based on knowing where you actually are rather than guessing. Dr Selvi will arrange or advise on testing. Could I just take a daily supplement? For most people, yes — a daily oral supplement is effective, cheap and appropriate, and Dr Selvi will often recommend exactly that. Injection is more useful where absorption is impaired or where consistent daily supplementation has not happened in practice. Is this a substitute for medical treatment? No. These are wellness treatments, not treatments for diagnosed medical conditions. If you have symptoms that concern you, see your GP — and tell Dr Selvi about any diagnosis or medication at your assessment. What are the risks? Bruising, discomfort at the injection or cannula site, and occasionally light-headedness. More significant reactions are uncommon but possible, which is why treatment is given by a doctor after assessment. All risks are explained before you consent. How will I feel afterwards? Most people feel fine and return to normal activities immediately. Some report feeling more energetic; responses vary considerably between individuals and it would be wrong to promise a particular effect. How often can I have it? That depends on the treatment and on you. Dr Selvi will advise an appropriate interval at your assessment rather than encouraging routine frequent use. Who will treat me?
