Tear Trough Filler
Classic Range filler placed deep in the groove between lower eyelid and cheek, after careful assessment.
Service Description
WHAT IT IS Tear trough filler at Dr Selvi Clinic in Brighton places small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler deep in the groove between the lower eyelid and the cheek, to soften the shadow it casts. It is a Classic Range treatment, offered only after Dr Selvi has assessed whether filler is the right answer for your under-eyes. The tear trough is the specific groove running down and outwards from the inner corner of the eye. If your concern is a broader hollowness under the eye, our Under Eye Filler page explains how that is approached; you do not need to book both. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT A deep tear trough casts a shadow that can make you look tired however much you sleep, and concealer cannot correct a shadow caused by shape. When the groove comes from true volume loss, a small, carefully placed amount of filler can soften it. Selection matters more here than almost anywhere else: the same treatment that suits one person can make another look puffy. WHAT WE AIM FOR A softer transition from the lower lid to the cheek and less shadow, using small volumes placed deep and often over more than one appointment. Improvement rather than elimination is the goal, and undertreating then reviewing is safer than the reverse. WHO IT SUITS · A clearly defined groove between the lower lid and the cheek · Shadowing caused by hollowness rather than pigment or puffiness · Reasonable skin thickness under the eye · Realistic expectations of softening rather than complete removal TREATMENT DETAILS Treatment time: Around 20–30 minutes after assessment Discomfort: Numbing cream applied; most people describe pressure rather than pain Downtime: Swelling and bruising are common and can take 1–2 weeks to settle fully Final result: Judged once swelling has settled, at two to four weeks Duration: Typically a year or more in this area, sometimes longer Review: At two to four weeks Recommended with: Pre-Filler Vascular Mapping (Doppler ultrasound); Ultrasound-Guided Injection available FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Will it get rid of my dark circles? Only if the darkness is a shadow from a hollow. Pigmentation, visible blood vessels under thin skin and puffiness are not changed by filler, and puffiness can be made worse. Dr Selvi will tell you which of these is causing what you see. Who should not have tear trough filler? People who wake with puffy eyes that settle during the day, those with prominent under-eye bags from fat pads, very thin crepey skin, or a history of filler moving in this area. In these cases treatment is likely to disappoint, and declining is often the right clinical decision. Polynucleotides or skin boosters, which work on the skin itself, may be discussed instead. Why is ultrasound vascular mapping recommended here? The tear trough sits over thin skin with important blood vessels nearby, some of which connect towards the eye. A short Doppler ultrasound scan shows where those vessels actually run in your face, so the injection plan can avoid them. It lowers the risk; no scan can remove it entirely. What are the risks? Swelling and bruising are common. The rare, serious risk is vascular occlusion: filler blocking or pressing on a blood vessel and reducing blood flow to the skin. Around the eye this can, very rarely, affect vision. Signs include skin turning pale or blotchy, pain out of proportion, or any change in sight. A change in vision needs 999 or A&E first, then a call to the clinic. Hyaluronidase is kept on site so treatment can start straight away. Can it be reversed? Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. It is not a casual undo, as dissolving has its own considerations, but it is possible, and it is one reason hyaluronic acid is used here rather than materials that cannot be dissolved. How long does it last? Frequently a year or more, sometimes considerably longer, because there is little movement in this area. That longevity is a reason to be conservative rather than a selling point. Who will treat me? All treatments at Dr Selvi Clinic are carried out by Dr Selvi, a doctor, after a face-to-face consultation and an assessment of your suitability.
